Sharon Kemp joining Rotherham MBC as its chief executive in 2016, to oversee its transformation. In January, Rotherham’s children’s services were rated ‘good’ by Ofsted for the first time since the child sexual exploitation scandal hit the town in 2014. Then, in July, the government announced its intention to end its intervention in the council. Prior to joining Rotherham, Ms Kemp was Manchester City Council’s strategic director for reform, but she had been both an assistant chief executive and a strategic director in the city since 2009. Before that she was assistant chief executive at Haringey LBC for two years and worked for the London borough in the aftermath of the ‘Baby P’ case. Her early years in local government were spent working in regeneration and community safety at Blackburn with Darwen BC having started her career with Greater Manchester Police.
